Badge Design
Client: Port of Brownsville
Disciplines: Branding, Art Direction
Anniversaries mark both history and progress. For the 90th anniversary of the Port of Brownsville, a commemorative badge was designed to celebrate the port’s legacy while honoring the people who keep it moving forward.
The badge was created to live beyond a simple graphic identity. It was produced as both a marathon medal for the Port’s anniversary run and a lapel pin distributed to employees, turning the celebration into a lasting artifact that connects the community and the workforce behind the port.
Insight
Anniversary graphics are often temporary, disappearing once the celebration ends. A physical object can carry meaning longer—transforming a moment of recognition into something people can keep and wear.
Idea
A Symbol of Legacy and Momentum
The badge centers around a rising sun motif, symbolizing growth, opportunity, and the bright future of the Port of Brownsville. Radiating beams represent the port’s expanding reach and its role as a gateway for trade and economic development.
The 90-year milestone, paired with the founding year 1936, anchors the design in the port’s history. At the base of the badge, the official Port of Brownsville logo grounds the mark within the port’s identity.
Execution
The design was built for metal engraving, using raised typography and dimensional forms to ensure clarity when produced as a medal and lapel pin. The circular composition draws inspiration from maritime seals and industrial insignias, reinforcing the port’s heritage while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic.
Outcome
The badge became a collectible symbol of the Port of Brownsville’s 90-year milestone, connecting the anniversary marathon with the people who power the port every day. As both a medal and a pin, the design transformed the celebration into a tangible reminder of the port’s past, present, and future.
